Under Akbar, the zabt system was established over a large area from Punjab to Awadh. Zabt system was applied in northern India and in Malwa and parts of Gujarat. With the help of Raja Todar Mal, Akbar experimented on the land revenue administration, which was completed in 1580. The zabti system or Todarmal's bandobast system was the system of measurement of the land (by means of bamboos linked with iron rings).
