Exam Pattern

AIIMS conducts a single computer-based (online) entrance exam for UG aspirants seeking admission in MBBS courses offered by 15 AIIMS in India. The exam is conducted on a national level at specific institutes enlisted under AIIMS.

The duration of the paper will be 3½ hours. The entire paper will be divided into five sections viz.

  • Section 1 – Physics 
  • Section 2 – Chemistry
  • Section 3 – Biology (Botany and Zoology)
  • Section 4 – General Knowledge
  • Section 5 – Aptitude & Logical Thinking

The question paper is set both in English and Hindi. Thus, candidates must state their preferred language while filling in the application form. The online mode paper comprises 200 multiple choice and reason-assertion questions

Eligibility

As per the AIIMS MBBS eligibility criteria, The basic minimum requirements that a candidate must fulfill to appear for AIIMS MBBS includes the minimum age limit and essential educational qualification which can be checked here-
  • Minimum Age Limit:- Candidates taking the AIIMS MBBS entrance exam must be 17 years of age .
  • Academic Qualification:- As per the current requirement, a candidate must have qualified Class 12 or an equivalent examination from a recognized board (CBSE/ISC/State board) wherein s/he should have Biology, Physics, Chemistry and English as main subjects. If a candidate has passed the qualifying examination from a foreign country then a document stating that the qualification is equivalent to Class 12 must be shown. The test-taker must also ensure that a minimum of 60% marks has to be scored in English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics if belonging to unreserved or OBC category. For a candidate belonging to PwD/SC/ST category, the minimum marks required should be at least 50% to fulfill AIIMS MBBS eligibility criteria .
  • Nationality:- Indian nationals, foreign nationals, OCIs, and NRIs are eligible to seek admission to MBBS course. Except for foreign nationals, taking AIIMS MBBS entrance exam is mandatory to obtain a seat at any of the nine Institutions.

Preparation Tips

  • Build the basics: The basic concepts of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology needs to be on the tips of the tongue of the AIIMS aspirants. The difficult concepts require more time to be understood. Therefore, such concepts should be worked upon well before the exam
  • Covering your NCERT syllabus of Classes 10 and 12 is essential along with this candidates must also refer to books which gives an upper edge on solving multiple choice questions.
  • Efficient time management: It is critically important to utilize time during the exam, and while preparing for the exams, as well. Though all the sections incorporate the equal number of questions, certain sections are apparently less complicated. Utilize the time saved in attempting your strong sections into attempting the weaker ones.
