The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) Exam for recruitment to various subordinate services like:
Assistants in Ministries/Departments, Attached and Subordinate office of the Govt. of India.
Inspectors of Central Excise & Customs.
Inspectors of Income Tax.
Preventive Officers in Customs.
Examiner in Customs.

Compiler in Registrar General of India.SSC CGL Exam will be conducted in 4 different levels. The levels are known as Tiers. The first three levels, Tier-I and Tier-II exams are conducted online. Tier-III is a pen and paper mode of examination while the fourth level, i.e. the computer skill test can be taken anywhere as per the candidate’s availability

SSC CGL 2018-19 Tier I Exam Pattern
It is a computer-based online test of 200 marks in 60 minutes. There is a negative marking of 0.50 Marks for each wrong answer. There is no sectional cut off.

SSC CGL 2018-19 Tier II Exam Pattern
This is an online based examination consisting of 4 papers as mentioned in the table. Each paper is 2 hours time duration. Out of these 4 papers, only two papers i.e. Paper-I and Paper-II are compulsory for all the students. Paper 3 is only for Statistical Investigator Gr II & Compiler Post while Paper 4 is for Asst. Audit Officer Gazetted Group "B" Post only.

SSC CGL Syllabus - Tier III
Tier III exam is conducted in an offline mode. This is a descriptive paper in English or Hindi. This section generally includes essay writing, formal letter writing, informal letter writing, etc. It carries a total of 100 marks and total time allotted is 60 minutes.
Note:
For handicapped candidates, the time allotted is 80 minutes.
Tier I and Tier II are compulsory for all the SSC CGL Aspirants. Tier III exam is optional. It is attempted only by the aspirants who apply for Junior Statistical Officer.
SSC CGL Syllabus - Tier IV
SSC CGL Tier IV exam includes two tests:
Data Entry Speed Test
This test is conducted to test the typing speed of the candidates.
The candidates are required to type a paragraph on the computers.
Time allotted is 15 minutes
Computer Proficiency Test
This test is conducted to test the skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint.
Time duration: 45 minutes

This exam is optional. It is to be attempted only by the aspirants who have applied for the post of TA, CSS, MEA, and Inspector.
