What is an oxidising agent? What happens when an oxidising agent is added to propanol ? Explain with the help of a chemical equation.

Oxidising agent is a substance which can give oxygen to other substance. When an oxidising agent is added to propanol it is oxidised to propanoic acid.
CH3CH2CH2OH→Alk.KMnO4+∅CH3CH2COOH\mathrm{CH}_3\mathrm{CH}_2\mathrm{CH}_2\mathrm{OH} \xrightarrow[\text{Alk.}\mathrm{KMnO}_4 + \varnothing]{} \mathrm{CH}_3\mathrm{CH}_2\mathrm{COOH}.
