Question : 19 of 36
Marks: +1, -0
A carbon compound ' PP ' on heating with excess conc. H2SO4\mathrm{H}_2\mathrm{SO}_4 forms another carbon compound ' QQ ' which on addition of hydrogen in the presence of nickel catalyst forms a saturated carbon compound 'R'. One molecule of ' RR ' on combustion forms two molecules of carbon dioxide and three molecules of water. Identify P,QP, Q and RR and write chemical equations for the reactions involved.
Solution:
P=Ethyl alcohol(C2H5OH)P = \text{Ethyl alcohol} (\mathrm{C}_2\mathrm{H}_5\mathrm{OH})
Q=Ethene(CH2=CH2)Q = \text{Ethene} (\mathrm{CH}_2=\mathrm{CH}_2)
R=Ethane(C2H6)R = \text{Ethane} (\mathrm{C}_2\mathrm{H}_6)
