Question : 8 of 36
Marks: +1, -0
An aldehyde as well as a ketone can be represented by the same molecular formula, say C3H6O{C}_3 {H}_6 {O}. Write their structures and name them. State the relation between the two in the language of science.
Solution:
C3H6O{C}_3 {H}_6 {O}
HHCHOCHCHH{H}- \overset{|↖{H}{C}}↙{|↙{H}}- \overset{||↖{O}{C}}- \overset{|↖{H}{C}}↙{|↙{H}}- {H} Propanone (Ketone)
HHCHHCHCHO{H}- \overset{|↖{H}{C}}↙{|↙{H}}- \overset{|↖{H}{C}}↙{|↙{H}}- {CHO}  Propanal (aldehyde)
They are isomers i.e., they have same molecular formula and different structural formula.
