In the diagram shown above n1,n, and n3 are refractive indices of the media 1,2 and 3 respectively. Which one of the following is true in this case?

n1=n2

Solution:

When the light enters from optically rarer to optically denser medium, it bends towards the normal. While travelling from n1 to n2 light bends towards the normal, so, n2>n1. Similarly, n3>n2. Therefore, n3>n1.
