An aromatic compound ' AA ' of molecular formula C7H7ON\mathrm{C_7H_7ON} undergoes a series of reactions as shown below. Write the structures of A, B, C, D and E in the following reactions:
OR
(a) Write the structures of main products when aniline reacts with the following reagents:
(i) Br2\mathrm{Br}_2 /water
(ii) HCl\mathrm{HCl}
(iii) (CH3CO)2O/\mathrm{(CH_3CO)_2O}/ pyridine
(b) Arrange the following in the increasing order of their boiling point:
C2H5NH2,C2H5OH,(CH3)3N\mathrm{C_2H_5NH_2}, \mathrm{C_2H_5OH}, \mathrm{(CH_3)_3N}
(c) Give a simple chemical test to distinguish between the following pair of compounds:
(CH3)2NH\mathrm{(CH_3)_2NH} and (CH3)3N\mathrm{(CH_3)_3N}
Solution:
OR
(b) (CH3)3N<C2H5NH2<C2H5OH\mathrm{(CH_3)_3N} < \mathrm{C_2H_5NH_2} < \mathrm{C_2H_5OH}
(c) By Hinsberg test of secondary amines (CH3)2NH\mathrm{(CH_3)_2NH} shows ppt. formation which is insoluble KOH\mathrm{KOH} while in tertiary amines, (CH3)3N\mathrm{(CH_3)_3N} do not react with benzene sulphonyl choride.
