Question : 35 of 55
Marks: +1, -0
The boiling point of a 0.2 m0.2\ \mathrm{m} solution of a nonelectrolyte in water is (Kb.(\mathrm{K}_{\mathrm{b}}. for water =0.52 K kg=0.52\ \mathrm{K}\ \mathrm{kg} mol−1\mathrm{mol}^{-1} )
Solution:
Molality of solution =0.2 m=0.2\ \mathrm{m}
KbK_b of water =0.52 K kg mol−1=0.52\ \mathrm{K}\ \mathrm{kg}\ \mathrm{mol}^{-1}
Boiling Point Elevation
For most non-electrolytes dissolved in water, the van't Hoff factor is essentially 1 .
Hence, Elevation in Boiling point =0.52×0.2==0.52 \times 0.2= 0.104 C∘0.104\ \mathrm{C}^{\circ}
Therefore,
Boiling point =100+0.104=100.104 C∘=100+0.104=100.104\ \mathrm{C}^{\circ}
