Two reasons to use A.C. voltage over D.C. are: (a) $AC$ power can be easily step up or step down using a transformer. (b) Electricity that is coming to our homes is AC because it comes from a faraway power generation plant so the loss of energy during transmission is very less in the case of $A C$ power than $D C$ power.
