SECTION -B
How does Ampere-Maxwell law explain the flow of current through a capacitor when it is being charged by a battery? Write the expression for the displacement current in terms of the rate of change of electric flux.
Solution:
When a battery is attached to a capacitor, conduction current flow in wire outside capacitor. In the capacitor the Electric flux ϕE=EA\phi_E = EA
Where,   E=Qε0A,  Q=ε0EA\; E = \frac{Q}{\varepsilon_0 A}, \; Q = \varepsilon_0 EA
∴   I=dQdt=ε0  dϕEdt\; I = \frac{dQ}{dt} = \varepsilon_0 \; \frac{d\phi_E}{dt}
This maintains the current in the capacitor.
Amperes-Maxwell law states that displacement current comes into existence due to rate of change of electric flux w.r.t. time.
∴\therefore Displacement current Id=ε0  dϕEdtI_d = \varepsilon_0 \; \frac{d\phi_E}{dt}
