Question : 3 of 4
Marks: +1, -0
With the help of a ray diagram, show how a compound microscope forms a magnified image of a tiny object, at least distance of distinct vision. Hence derive an expression for the magnification produced by it. 3
Solution:
Image formation by compound microscope at the least distance of distinct vision:
Expression for magnification:
For objective,
Magnification =mo=P′Q′PQ=−vu= m_o = \frac{P'Q'}{PQ} = \frac{-v}{u}
When the image is formed at the least distance of distinct vision, then
Magnification =me=1+Dfe= m_e = 1 + \frac{D}{f_e}
So, final magnification =m=me=vu(1+Dfe)= m = m_e = \frac{v}{u} \left(1 + \frac{D}{f_e}\right)
