Question : 12 of 85
Marks: +1, -0
If 6 litres of hydrogen and 4 litres of chlorine are mixed and exploded and if water is added to the gases formed, find the volume of the residual gas.
Solution:
H2+Cl2→2HCl1:1:2\begin{array}{c c c c c} \mathrm{H}_2 & + & \mathrm{Cl}_2 & \rightarrow & 2\mathrm{HCl} \\ 1 & : & 1 & : & 2 \end{array}
If 1 vol1\ \text{vol} . of Cl2\mathrm{Cl}_2 combine with 1 vol1\ \text{vol}. of H2\mathrm{H}_2
Then 4 l4\ \text{l} of Cl2\mathrm{Cl}_2 combine with 4 l4\ \text{l} of H2\mathrm{H}_2
Vol. of H2=6 l\mathrm{H}_2 = 6\ \text{l}
∵\because Vol. of residual gas =6−4=6-4
=2 l=2\ \text{l} of H2\mathrm{H}_2 in the residual gas.
