Question : 26 of 85
Marks: +1, -0
A gas of mass 32 gms32\,\mathrm{gms} has volume of 20 litres at S.T.P. Calculate the gram molecular weight of the gas.
Solution:
The mass of 22.4 l22.4\,\mathrm{l} of gas at S.T.P. is equal to its gram molecular mass.
20 lit. of gas at S.T.P. weighs =32 g=32\,\mathrm{g}
∴22.4\therefore 22.4 litres of gas will weigh = 3220=\,\frac{32}{20} ×22.4\times 22.4
=35⋅84 gms.=35 \cdot 84\,\mathrm{gms}.
≃36 gms\simeq 36\,\mathrm{gms} .
Therefore, Gram molecular weigh of the gas is 36 gms.
