Question : 34 of 88
Marks: +1, -0
Sodium hydroxide solution when added to Solution C\mathrm{C} gives a white precipitate which is insoluble in excess of sodium hydroxide solution.
Solution:
When NaOH\mathrm{NaOH} is added to solution(C) calcium nitrate, double displacement reaction takes place, a white ppt. of calcium hydroxide is formed which is insoluble in excess of NH4 OH\mathrm{NH}_4\,\mathrm{OH} solution.
  2 NaOH(aq)+Ca(NO3)2(aq)→\;2\,\mathrm{NaOH}(\mathrm{aq}) + \mathrm{Ca}(\mathrm{NO}_3)_2(\mathrm{aq}) \rightarrow   Ca(OH)2White ppt+2 NaNO3(aq)\;\underset{\text{White ppt}}{\mathrm{Ca}(\mathrm{OH})_2} + 2\,\mathrm{NaNO}_3(\mathrm{aq})
The cation is Ca2+\mathrm{Ca}^{2+}.
