Question : 39 of 88
Marks: +1, -0
P,Si,F,Be\mathrm{P}, \mathrm{S i}, \mathrm{F}, \mathrm{B e} (decreasing order of valence electrons)
Solution:
F>P>Si>Be\mathrm{F} > \mathrm{P} > \mathrm{Si} > \mathrm{Be}
On moving left to right in a period valence electron increases by one. The atomic numbers are F(9),P(15),Si(14),Be(4)\mathrm{F}(9), \mathrm{P}(15), \mathrm{Si}(14), \mathrm{Be}(4) .
By the electronic configuration
F−2,7,P−2,8,5,Si−2,8,4,\mathrm{F}-2,7, \mathrm{P}-2,8,5, \mathrm{Si}-2,8,4, Be−2,2.\mathrm{Be}-2,2 .
Hence F\mathrm{F} has 7 electrons, P\mathrm{P} has 5 , Si\mathrm{Si} has 4 and Be\mathrm{Be} has 2 electrons in their outermost shell.
