Question : 3 of 25
Marks: +1, -0
For the following compounds, write structural formulae and IUPAC names of all possible isomers having the number of double or triple bond as indicated :
(a) C4H8\mathrm{C_4H_8} (one double bond)
(b) C5H8\mathrm{C_5H_8} (one triple bond)
Solution:
(a) C4H8\mathrm{C_4H_8} can have the following structures with one single double bond :
(i) But - 1 - ene
H3C−H2C−HC=CH2\mathrm{H_3C-H_2C-HC=CH_2}
(ii) 2 - Methylprop - 1 - ene
H3C−C∣CH3=CH2\mathrm{H_3C-\underset{\mathrm{CH}_3}{\underset{\vert}{\mathrm{C}}}=CH_2}
(iii) But - 2 - ene
H3C−HC=CH−CH3\mathrm{H_3C-HC=CH-CH_3}
(b) C5H8\mathrm{C_5H_8} can have the following structures with one triple bond :
(i) Pent - 1 - yne
H3C−H2C−H2C−C≡CH\mathrm{H_3C-H_2C-H_2C-C\equiv CH}
(ii) Pent - 2 - yne
H3C−H2C−C≡C−CH3\mathrm{H_3C-H_2C-C\equiv C-CH_3}
(iii) 3 - Methylbut - 1 - yne
H3C−C∣CH3H−C≡CH\mathrm{H_3C-\underset{\mathrm{H}}{\underset{\mathrm{CH}_3}{\underset{\vert}{\mathrm{C}}}}-C\equiv CH}
