Question : 37 of 67
Marks: +1, -0
The diameter of zinc atom is 2.6 Å. Calculate (a) radius of zinc atom in pm and (b) number of atoms present in a length of 1.6 cm if the zinc atoms are arranged side by side lengthwise.
Solution:
(a) Radius of zinc = diameter2\frac{\text{diameter}}{2} = 2.62\frac{2.6}{2} = 1.3 Å = 1.3 × 101010^{-10} m
= 130 × 101210^{-12} m = 130 pm [Since 1 pm = 101210^{-12} m]
(b) Number of Zn atoms present in 1.6 cm length
= 1.62.6×108\frac{1.6}{2.6 \times 10^{-8}} = 6.154 × 10710^{7}
