Solve 3x + 8 > 2, when (i) x is an integer (ii) x is a real number.
Solution:
Given inequality is 3x + 8 > 2 Transposing 8 to R.H.S., we get 3x > 2 – 8 = –6 Dividing both sides by 3, we get x > –2 (i) When x is an integer, the solution is {–1, 0, 1, 2, 3, ...} (ii) When x is real, the solution is (–2, ∞).
