A 60 µF capacitor is connected to a 110 V, 60 Hz a.c. supply. Determine the rms value of current in the circuit.
Solution:  
Capacitive reactance XCX_C = 12πfC\frac{1}{2\pi f C}
XCX_C = 12×π×60×60×106\frac{1}{2 \times \pi \times 60 \times 60 \times 10^{-6}} = 44.2 Ω
The rms current is IvI_v = EvXC\frac{E_v}{X_C} = 11044.2\frac{110}{44.2} = 2.5 A
