Question : 9 of 34
Marks: +1, -0
A system has two charges qAq_A = 2.5 × 10710^{-7} C and qBq_B = – 2.5 × 10710^{-7} C located at point A (0, 0, –15 cm) and B (0, 0, +15 cm), respectively. What are the total charge and electric dipole moment of the system?
Solution:
The total charge of the system is,
qnetq_{net} = qA+qBq_A+q_B or qnetq_{net} = 2.5 × 10710^{-7} - 2.5 × 10710^{-7} or qnetq_{net} = 0
and the total electric dipole moment of the system is
p = q . 2a = 2.5 × 10710^{-7} C × 2 × 15 × 10210^{-2} m or p = 75 × 10910^{-9} C m
or p = 7.5 × 10810^{-8} C m directed along BA
