Question : 30 of 31
Marks: +1, -0
The reaction, Cr2O3+2AlAl2O3+2Cr\mathrm{Cr_2O_3} + 2\mathrm{Al} \rightarrow \mathrm{Al_2O_3} + 2\mathrm{Cr} (ΔG=421 kJ)(\Delta G^{\circ} = -421\ \mathrm{kJ}) is thermodynamically feasible as is apparent from the Gibbs energy value. Why does it not take place at room temperature?
Solution:
Certain amount of activation energy is essential even for suchreactions which are thermodynamically feasible, therefore heating isrequired.
