Question : 13 of 53
Marks: +1, -0
The partial pressure of ethane over a saturated solution containing 6.56×103^{-3} g of ethane is 1 bar. If the solution contains 5.00 × 102^{-2} g of ethane, then what shall be the partial pressure of the gas?
Solution:
Applying the relationship, m=KH×pm=K_{H} \times p
In thefirst case, 6.56×103g=KH×16.56 \times 10^{-3} \,\mathrm{g}=K_{H} \times 1 bar or KH=6.56×103gbar1K_{H}=6.56 \times 10^{-3} \,\mathrm{g} \,\mathrm{bar}^{-1}
In the second case, 5.00×102g5.00 \times 10^{-2} \,\mathrm{g} =(6.56×103gbar1)×p= (6.56 \times 10^{-3} \,\mathrm{g} \,\mathrm{bar}^{-1}) \times p or, p=5.00×102g6.56×103gbar1=7.62barp=\frac{5.00 \times 10^{-2} \,\mathrm{g}}{6.56 \times 10^{-3} \,\mathrm{g} \,\mathrm{bar}^{-1}}=7.62 \,\mathrm{bar}
