Calculate the mass percentage of benzene (C6H6)(\mathrm{C_6H_6}) and carbon tetrachloride (CCl4\mathrm{CCl_4}) if 22 g of benzene is dissolved in 122 g of carbon tetrachloride.
Solution:
Mass of solution = Mass of benzene + Mass of carbon tetrachloride
= 22 g + 122 g = 144 g
Mass percentage of benzene\text{Mass percentage of benzene} =Mass of benzeneMass of solution×100= \frac{\text{Mass of benzene}}{\text{Mass of solution}} \times 100
=22g144g×100=15.28%= \frac{22\,\text{g}}{144\,\text{g}} \times 100 = 15.28\%
∴ Mass percentage of CCl4\mathrm{CCl_4} = 100 – Mass percentage of benzene
=10015.28=84.72%= 100 - 15.28 = 84.72\%
