Question : 45 of 49
Marks: +1, -0
Which is a stronger reducing agent Cr2+^{2+} or Fe2+^{2+} and why?
Solution:
Cr2+^{2+} is stronger reducing agent than Fe2+^{2+}
Reason: d4^{4} → d3^{3}occurs in case of Cr2+^{2+ }to Cr3+^{3+}.
But d6^{6} → d5^{5}occurs in case of Fe2+^{2+} to Fe3+^{3+}.
In a medium (like water) d3^{3}is more stable as compared to d5^{5}
