On narrating what happened while returning home, Bama's elder brother told her, that although, people did not get to decide the family they were born into, they could outwit the indignities inflicted upon them if they were well read and successful. It was by educating themselves that they could attain a feeling of individuality. This left a deep impression on Bama.
