'Our large population is not a cause of poverty but an asset, a resource'. Write a debate in 150-200 words, either for or against the motion.
Solution:
LARGE POPULATION NOT A CAUSE OF POVERTY BUT AN ASSET
FOR :
A very good morning to the jury members, all my dear friends and my fellow participants. Today, I am going to speak for the topic 'Our large population is not a cause of poverty but an asset, a resource'.
India has the second highest population in the world with 125 crore people and also is the biggest provider of skilled manpower in the world.
Currently, India provides the maximum number of engineers to the world. It is also one of the largest markets for automobiles, high-value foods, etc.
Large population means more intelligence that can be put to good effect and also skilled population draws more projects from foreign companies as well.
I, therefore, agree with the view that our large population is not a cause of poverty but an asset as every hand can become an earning hand for the economy and not a cause of poverty.
AGAINST :
Good morning the jury members and my fellow friends. Today, I am going to speak against the topic. Large population is certainly the main factor for people falling below the poverty line. The presence of more people demands more requirement of resources which in turn needs more jobs. Too many qualified people apply for similar jobs and then they have to compromises or settle for less wages. The situation is bad because there are too many mouths to feed. People should find ways to control the number otherwise we would be facing a situation wherein we have our major part of the population below the poverty line. There are issues of living, food, earning and education because of the large population. A family having 4 to 5 children cannot educate all their children because of their financial position with the result they do not get a job and hence remain poor. Everything comes back as a whole circle and centres around one single point that we have to check the increase in number of population. Large population becomes an asset when everyone has proper education, job, shelter and food otherwise it is a burden for the family and the country at large. Therefore, we can conclude that large population is not an asset but an issue of concern which demands everyone's efforts.
