Causes behind infrastructural development by British Rule:
(i) Development of trade: Britishers developed Railways, Ports, Roadways etc. so that they can supply their good across the country. It helped them to connect to different parts of the country and flourish their trade which was their main motive to come to India.
(ii) British empowerment: Development of infrastructure empowered the British Rule in the whole country. So they were able to suppress the Indian Rulers in different parts of country.
(iii) Westernization: Britishers want to influence the Indians with their culture and hence control over them. So they promoted machine made or Britain made goods instead of Indian handicrafts. It was possible through development of infrastructure in the country.
(iv) Protection against invasion: Britishers developed ports to strengthen their army so that they can protect against invasion.
