What is the value and sign of (according to new Cartesian sign convention) magnification of the image formed by L2 ?
Solution:
Magnification can be defined as the ratio of size of the image to the size of the object. It is denoted by m. This magnification can tell us about the nature of the image based on the sign itself. If the ratio is negative then the image is real and inverted.
Image formed by lens L2 is virtual and enlarged. Thus, its magnification should be positive and more than 1 .
