Roadways still have more importance than Railways due to the following features:
(i) Construction cost of roads is much less than that of railways lines.
(ii) Roads can traverse comparatively more dissected areas and undulating topography.
(iii) Roads can negotiate higher gradients of slopes and can traverse mountains such as Himalayas.
(iv) Road transport provides door to door service.
(v) Road transport is also used as feeder to other modes of transport such as they provide link between railway stations, air and sea ports.
