Question : 30
Total: 39
State any four semantic barriers of communication.
Solution:
It refers to misinterpretation of language or words used during communication. These barriers usually occur during the process of receiving and understanding the message.
Semantic barriers are as follows:
(i) Badly expressed message: Sometimes intended meaning may not be conveyed by the usage of inadequate vocabulary, wrong meaning words, etc.
(ii) Symbols with different meaning: A symbol or word with different meanings confuses the receiver. If the issuer/ receptor misunderstands it then the communication becomes meaningless.

(iii) Faulty translations: The meaning of a message in one language if translated will be different in other language. Any carelessness in literal translation becomes a barrier to communication.
(iv) Unclarified assumption: Different assumptions may have different interpretations, which result in confusion.
(v) Technical Jargon: Usage of technical words by specialists will result in misunderstanding among workers.
(vi) Body language and gesture decoding: Communication conveyed through body gestures, body language and facial expressions could be misunderstood.
