The oxidation state of Ni in [NiCl4]2=+2[\mathrm{NiCl}_4]^{2-}=+2
Ni=[Ar]4s23d8\mathrm{Ni}=[\mathrm{Ar}]4s^23d^8
Ni+2=[Ar]3d8\mathrm{Ni}^{+2}=[\mathrm{Ar}]3d^8
Number of unpaired electron = 2
∴ magnetic moment = 2(2+2)\sqrt{2(2+2)} B.M.
= 8\sqrt{8}
= 2.82 BM
