Question : 30
Total: 37
(a) Differentiate between self inductance and mutual inductance.
(b) The mutual inductance of two coaxial coils is2 H . The current in one coil is changed uniformly from zero to 0.5 A in 100 ms . Find the :
(i) change in magnetic flux through the other coil.
(ii) emf induced in the other coil during the change.
(b) The mutual inductance of two coaxial coils is
(i) change in magnetic flux through the other coil.
(ii) emf induced in the other coil during the change.
Solution:
(a) In self inductance, the change in the strength of current in the coil is opposed by the coil itself by inducing an e.m.f.
In mutual inductance, a pair of coils are involved. If current changes in one coil, the other near by coil opposes the change by inducing an e.m.f. in itself.
(b) Induced emf= | e | = M
= 2 ×
= 5 V
Induced emf = | e | =
5 =
d ϕ = change in flux = 5 × 100 × 10 − 3 = 0.5 Wb
In mutual inductance, a pair of coils are involved. If current changes in one coil, the other near by coil opposes the change by inducing an e.m.f. in itself.
(b) Induced emf
