A compound reacts with an acid to form gas P which has no effect on acidified K2Cr2O7 solution but turns lime water milky.

Solution:

Gas P is carbon dioxide.
As gas carbon dioxide turns lime water milky, due to formation of white ppt. of calcium carbonate.
Ca(OH)2+CO2→CaCO3↓+H2O
The gas has no effect on filter paper dipped in acidified K2Cr2O7 .
