Solution:
Merits of Road Transport are :
(a) Multipurpose nature : Roads can be used by several types of vehicles, e.g. motor cars, trucks, buses. Road transport is very convenient and controllable. It serves as a feeder to ocean transport. Road transport provides more personal and efficient services due to small and simple organisation.
(b) Door-to-Door service : Road transport provides complete service by loading the goods at consignor's door and unloading them at the consignee's place. No elaborate loading arrangements are required and less time is involved in transportation. There is no need to wait for full load shipment.

Demerits of Road Transport are :
(a) Limited capacity : Road transport is not suitable for carrying bulky or heavy goods as a moter vehicle can carry only a small load.
(b) Lack of Safety : Road transport is not very safe. Risk involed in greater. The probability of accident is higher. Goods are liable to damage due to bad climate and faulty roads.
(c) Slow Speed: There are operational and statutory limits on speed of road transport. Heavy traffic on roads require frequent reduction in speed. Speed has to be restricted for the sake of safety of people.
(d) Irregularity : Road transport does not provide regularity of service. The chances of accidents and break downs are comparatively high. There is often lack of fixed time schedules and routes. Buses and trucks may not regularly. (any three)
