Question : 54
Total: 70
Why does a bottle of soft drink cool faster when surrounded by ice cubes than by ice cold water, both at 0C ?
Solution:
Because 1gm of ice at 0C takes 336J of heat energy from the drink to melt into water at 0C. Thus drink loses an additional 336J of heat energy for 1g ice at 0C than for 1gm ice-cold water at 0C. Therefore cooling produced by 1g ice at 0C is more than that by 1gm water at 0C.
