Question : 25 of 65
Marks: +1, -0
A boy uses a single fixed pulley to lift a load of 50 kgf50\,\text{kgf} to some height. Another boy uses a single movable pulley to lift the same load to the same height. Compare the effort applied by them. Give a reason to support your answer.
Solution:
Given :: Load =50 kgf=50\,\text{kgf}
For a single fixed pulley in ideal case, M.A. =1=1
∵ M.A.=LoadEffort\because\ \text{M.A.}=\frac{\text{Load}}{\text{Effort}}
or Effort=LoadM.A.\text{or}\ \text{Effort}=\frac{\text{Load}}{\text{M.A.}} =50 kgf1=50 kgf=\frac{50\,\text{kgf}}{1}=50\,\text{kgf}
For a single movable pulley in ideal case, M.A. =2=2
∴ Effort=LoadM.A.\therefore\ \text{Effort}=\frac{\text{Load}}{\text{M.A.}} =50 kgf2=25 kgf .=\frac{50\,\text{kgf}}{2}=25\,\text{kgf}\ \text{.}
∴\therefore Ratio of effort by a single fixed pulley : Effort applied by a single movable pulley
=50 kgf:25 kfg .=50\,\text{kgf}: 25\,\text{kfg}\ .
=2:1=2: 1
