The human ear can defect continuous sounds in the frequency range from 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz . Assuming that the speed of sound in air is 330 ms − 1 for all frequencies, calculate the wavelengths corresponding to the given extreme frequencies of the audible range.
Solution:
Given : Frequency range = 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz , speed of sound in air ( v ) = 330 ms − 1 .
We Know,
v = f λ .
∴ Case 1 → 330 = 20 × λ 1
λ 1 =
= 16.5 m
Case 2 → 330 = 20 , 000 × λ 2
λ 2 =
= 0.0165 m .
∴ Wavelength range is 0.0165 m to 1.65 m .
