Question : 51
Total: 65
A certain sound has a frequency of 256 hertz and a wavelength of 1.3 m .
1. Calculate the speed with which this sound travels.
2. What difference would be felt by a listener between the above sound and another sound travelling at the same speed, but of wavelength2.6 m ?
1. Calculate the speed with which this sound travels.
2. What difference would be felt by a listener between the above sound and another sound travelling at the same speed, but of wavelength
Solution:
Given : f = 256 Hz , λ = 1.3 m
(1) We know,
V = f λ
= 256 × 1.3
= 332.8 ms − 1
(2) Given:λ ′ = 2.6 m , f ′ = ?
∵ f ′ =
=
= 128 Hz
Since, the frequency of sound decreases, so it will appear to the listener having less pitch (or strillness) as compared to the previous sound.
