Question : 33 of 74
Marks: +1, -0
What is the total mechanical energy possessed by the body at the height of 2m2 \text{m} assuming it is a frictionless medium?
Solution:
At the highest position;
  h=5m;m=10kg;g=10m/s2\;h=5 \text{m} ; m=10 \text{kg} ; g=10 \text{m} / \text{s}^2
  ∴      Potential Energy  (U1)=mgh\; \therefore \;\; \;\text{Potential Energy}\; (U_1) = m g h
    =10×10×5\;\;=10 \times 10 \times 5
    =500J\;\;=500 \text{J}
Kinetic Energy (K1)=0(K_1)=0 (∵  velocity  =0)( \because \;\text{velocity}\;=0)
∴\therefore Total mechanical Energy   =U1+K1\;=U_1+K_1
  =500+0\;=500+0
  =500J\;=500 \text{J}
At the height of 2m2 \text{m}, the total mechanical energy will remain same as it was at the highest position. ( ∵U+K=\because U+K= constant, for a freely falling body)
∴\therefore Total mechanical energy =500J=500 \text{J}
