(1) The polarity of the coil can be changed by reversing the direction of current flowing through the coil which can be done by changing (reversing) the polarities of the battery at A and B.
(2)The strength of the magnetic field around the coil can be decreased by decreasing the strength (amount) of current flowing through the coil which can be done by increasing the resistance of the rheostat in the circuit.
