Functions of human foetal placenta :
(a) Placenta is permeable to respiratory gases, nutrients and also antibodies but it does not allow the passage of germs from mother to foetus.
(b) Placenta also acts as an endocrine gland and produce the hormones oestrogens and progesterone.
