Question : 3 of 57
Marks: +1, -0
The mean of following numbers is 68. Find the value of ' xx ':
45,52,60,x,69,70,26,81 and 94.45, 52, 60, x, 69, 70, 26, 81 \text{ and } 94.
Hence estimate the median.
Solution:
 Mean = Sum of variates  Number of variates \text{ Mean } = \frac{\text{ Sum of variates }}{\text{ Number of variates }}
68=45+52+60+x+69+70+26+81+94968 = \frac{45+52+60+x+69+70+26+81+94}{9}
612=497+x612 = 497 + x
115=x115 = x
On arranging the given numbers in ascending order, we get
26,45,52,60,69,70,81,94,11526, 45, 52, 60, 69, 70, 81, 94, 115
No. of terms (n)=9(n)=9 (odd)
 Median =(n+12)th term\text{ Median } = \left( \frac{n+1}{2} \right)^{\text{th}} \text{ term}
=(9+12)th term= \left( \frac{9+1}{2} \right)^{\text{th}} \text{ term}
=5 th term= 5 \text{ th term}
=69.= 69.
