A system has two charges qA = 2.5 × 10–7 C and qB = – 2.5 × 10–7 C located at point A (0, 0, –15 cm) and B (0, 0, +15 cm), respectively. What are the total charge and electric dipole moment of the system?
Solution:  
The total charge of the system is,
qnet = qA+qB or qnet = 2.5 × 10−7 - 2.5 × 10−7 or qnet = 0
and the total electric dipole moment of the system is
p = q . 2a = 2.5 × 10−7 C × 2 × 15 × 10−2 m or p = 75 × 10−9 C m
or p = 7.5 × 10−8 C m directed along BA
