Three capacitors of capacitances 2 pF, 3 pF and 4 pF are connected in parallel.
(a) What is the total capacitance of the combination.
(b) Determine the charge on each capacitor if the combination is connected to a 100 V supply.
Solution:  
(a) C = C1+C2+C3C_1+C_2+C_3 = 2 + 3 + 4 or C = 9 pF
(b) Since the capacitors are in parallel, so potential difference across each of them is same i.e.
V1V_1 = V2V_2 = V3V_3 = 100 V
So, charges stored on capacitors are
Q1Q_1 = C1V1C_1V_1 = 2 × 100 = 200 pC
Q2Q_2 = C2V2C_2V_2 = 3 × 100 = 300 pC
Q3Q_3 = C3V3C_3V_3 = 4 × 100 = 400 pC
