An aromatic compound ‘A’ on treatment with aqueous ammonia and heating forms compound ‘B’ which on heating with B r 2 and KOH forms a compound ‘C’ of molecular formula C 6 H 7 N . Write the structures and IUPAC names of compounds A, B and C.

Given scheme of reactions is

(i) Looking at the given scheme, we can clearly see that reaction B → C is Hofmann bromamide reaction.
Thus, C is an amine (1°) while B must be an amide with molecular formulaC 7 H 7 N O .
(ii) Further, the ratio of C and H in B and C are indicativeof the fact that it is an aromatic compound.
