Question : 34
Total: 39
The conversion of molecules X to Y follows second order kinetics. If concentration of X is increased to three times how will it affect the rate of formation of Y?
Solution:
The reaction, X → Y, follows second order kinetics hence the rate law equation will be
Rate = k C 2 , where C = [ X ]
If concentration of X increases three times, now,[ X ] = 3 C m o l L − 1
∴ Rate = k ( 3 C ) 2 = 9 k C 2
Thus the rate of reaction will become 9 times. Hence, the rate of formationof Y will increase 9 times.
If concentration of X increases three times, now,
Thus the rate of reaction will become 9 times. Hence, the rate of formationof Y will increase 9 times.
