Bond angle in P H 4 + is higher than in P H 3 . Why?
Solution:
Both are s p 3 hybridised. In P H 4 + all the four orbitals are bondedwhereas in P H 3 there is a lone pair of electrons on P, which is responsiblefor lone pair-bond pair repulsion in P H 3 reducing the bond angle to lessthan 109° 28′.
