Question : 15 of 50
Marks: +1, -0
Copper crystallises into a fcc lattice with edge length 3.61 × 108^{-8} cm. Show that the calculated density is in agreement with its measured value of 8.92 g cm3^{-3}.
Solution:
G Given a=3.61×108 cm,Z=4(a=3.61 \times 10^{-8} \text{ cm}, Z=4( for fcc),M=63.5(\text{fcc}), M=63.5( for Cu),\mathrm{Cu}),NA=6.022×1023,d=?N_A=6.022 \times 10^{23}, d=?
Using formula, $ $ d=Z×Ma3×NAd= \frac{Z \times M}{a^{3} \times N_{A}}
=4×63.5(3.61×108)3×(6.022×1023)= \frac{4 \times 63.5}{(3.61 \times 10^{-8})^{3} \times (6.022 \times 10^{23})}
=8.97 g cm3=8.97 \text{ g} \text{ cm}^{-3}
This value is in close agreement with the measured value (8.92 g cm3^{-3}).
