The Grand Trunk Road is one of Asia's oldest andlongest major roads. For more than two millennia, ithas linked the eastern and western regions of the Indiansubcontinent, connecting South Asia with Central Asia.It runs from Chittagong, Bangladesh west to Howrah,West Bengal in India, across north India into Peshawar,up to Kabul, Afghanistan. The predecessor of themodern road was rebuilt by Sher Shah Suri, whorenovated and extended the ancient Mauryan route inthe 16th century
